Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 10
Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Remove the wheel hub.
Step 13
Remove the brake pads retaining clips.
Use pliers.
Step 14
Pull both brake shoes with the adjuster from the working brake cylinder, avoiding damage to the boots.
Replacement: brake shoes – VW Lupo 6X1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system.
Step 15
Release the parking brake cable. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 16
Remove the retaining springs of the brake pads.
Step 17
Remove both shoes from the mounting bracket. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 18
Perform further demounting of the upper retaining spring and the adjuster mechanism. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 19
Treat the mounting seats of the brake shoes. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Install the upper retaining springs and adjustment mechanism on new brake shoes.
Step 21
Place the brake shoes so that their inward edges rest on the anchor plate.
Step 22
Install the retaining springs of the brake pads. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 23
Treat the mounting seats of the brake shoes. Use copper grease.
Step 24
Secure the parking brake cable. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 25
Attach the brake shoes, together with the brake adjuster, to the wheel cylinder.
Step 26
Install the retaining spring of the brake pads. Use pliers.
Step 27
Install the brake pads retaining clips. Use pliers.
Step 28
Install the wheel hub.
Step 29
Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 175 Nm torque.
Step 30
Install the hub bearing protection cap. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 31
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 32
Install a brake drum.
Step 33
Tigten the brake drum fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 4 Nm torque.
Step 34
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 35
Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW Lupo 6X1
Step 37
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 38
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 39
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 40
Adjust the gap between the brake shoes and the drum on VW Lupo 6X1, pressing the brake pedal 10-15 times.
