Replacement: brake shoes – VW Lupo 6X1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – VW Lupo 6X1.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: brake shoes – VW Lupo 6X1. AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the brake drum fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the brake drum fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver. - Step 8
Remove the brake drum.Replacement: brake shoes – VW Lupo 6X1. Professionals recommend:Examine the brake drum. Replace it if necessary. - Step 9
Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer. - Step 10Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 11
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 12
Remove the wheel hub. - Step 13
Remove the brake pads retaining clips. Use pliers. - Step 14
Pull both brake shoes with the adjuster from the working brake cylinder, avoiding damage to the boots.Replacement: brake shoes – VW Lupo 6X1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system. - Step 15
Release the parking brake cable. Use round-nose pliers. - Step 16
Remove the retaining springs of the brake pads. - Step 17
Remove both shoes from the mounting bracket. Use round-nose pliers. - Step 18
Perform further demounting of the upper retaining spring and the adjuster mechanism. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 19Treat the mounting seats of the brake shoes. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 20
Install the upper retaining springs and adjustment mechanism on new brake shoes. - Step 21
Place the brake shoes so that their inward edges rest on the anchor plate. - Step 22
Install the retaining springs of the brake pads. Use round-nose pliers. - Step 23
Treat the mounting seats of the brake shoes. Use copper grease.
