Replacement: brake caliper – VW BEETLE (5C1). Professionals recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake caliper – VW BEETLE (5C1). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: brake caliper – VW BEETLE (5C1). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 6
Remove the wheel. - Step 7
Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Loosen the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake hose. Use a combination spanner #11. - Step 9
Loosen the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11. - Step 10
Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp. - Step 11
Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath. - Step 12Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake hose. Use a combination spanner #11.Step 13
Remove the brake hose retaining clip. Use a crowbar. - Step 14
Remove the retaining clip of the parking brake cable. Use a crowbar. - Step 15Press the parking brake actuator lever on the brake caliper.Step 16Disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper. Use water pump pliers.Step 17
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. - Step 18
Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – VW BEETLE (5C1). AUTODOC experts recommend:When replacing the brake caliper, it is recommended to check the brake hose for damages and, if necessary, to replace it with a new one. When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.If no new guide pins were supplied in a kit with the new brake calipers, use the old pins. - Step 19
Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11. - Step 20
Install the brake caliper and fix it. - Step 21
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque. - Step 22Install the parking brake cable into the brake caliper bracket. Use water pump pliers.Step 23
Secure the parking brake cable with the retaining clip. - Step 24
Unscrew the brake hose plug. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 25
Treat the brake pipe. Use a brake cleaner.Replacement: brake caliper – VW BEETLE (5C1). Tip:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes. - Step 26
Screw in the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11.
