How to change rear ABS sensor on AUDI A4 B5 Saloon [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – ABS Sensor for A4 Saloon (8D2, B5) and other AUDI models
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Audi A4 B5 saloon
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the ABS sensor fastener.
Step 7
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 8
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.
Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 10
Remove the brake pads.
Step 11
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use HEX No.H8. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 13
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 14
Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
Step 16
Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 17
Unscrew the hub nut. Use a drive socket #24. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18
Remove the brake disc assemled with the wheel hub bearing. Use a crowbar.
Step 19
Clean the stub axle. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 20
Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Measure and note the distance between the ABS sensor and the brake disc. Use a vernier caliper.
Step 22
Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use pincers.
Step 23
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
Step 24
Remove the rear seats.
Step 25
Detach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 26
Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use pincers.
Step 27
Clean the ABS sensor mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 28
Treat the ABS sensor fastener. Use a multipurpose grease. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 29
Connect the ABS sensor.
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
When installing the ABS sensor, keep the required distance between it and the brake disc.
Step 30
Connect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
Step 31
Clean the stub axle. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 32
Install the brake disc assembled with the wheel hub bearing.
Step 33
Adjust the wheel bearing.
Step 34
Screw on the hub nut. Use a drive socket #24. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 35
Install a new hub nut cotter pin. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
Step 36
Install the cap of the hub nut. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 37
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. Tip:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 38
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 39
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use HEX No.H8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 95 Nm torque.
Step 40
Install the brake pads.
Step 41
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 42
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 43
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ABS sensor – Audi A4 B5 saloon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 44
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 45
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 46
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 47
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 48
Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use dielectric grease.
Step 49
Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 50
Install the rear seats.
