Replacement: hand brake cable – Mercedes W201. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: hand brake cable – Mercedes W201. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.
- Step 2Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 3Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 4Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Raise the car.Replacement: hand brake cable – Mercedes W201. Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
- Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Clean the brake pad guide pins. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 9Remove the brake pad guide pins. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 10Remove the retaining spring of the brake pads.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar (2 pieces).
- Step 12Remove the brake pads.
- Step 13Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #17.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 16Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: hand brake cable – Mercedes W201. AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 17Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 20Remove the brake disc.
- Step 21Remove the upper brake shoe return spring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 22Remove the hold-down springs of the parking brake shoes. Use long nose pliers.
- Step 23Remove the parking brake adjuster.
- Step 24Remove the lower brake shoe return spring. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 25Remove the parking brake shoes.
- Step 26Clean the fastener connecting the parking brake cable to the rear knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 27Clean the parking brake cable adjuster. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Loosen the parking brake cable adjuster. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 29Remove the retainer connecting the parking brake cable to the car body. Use a crowbar.
- Step 30Unscrew the fastener connecting the parking brake cable to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 31Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 32Remove the pin connecting the cable to the parking brake shoe shackle. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 33Remove the parking brake cable.
- Step 34Clean the parking brake cable mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 35Clean the mounting seats of the parking brake shoes. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 36Install a new parking brake cable.
- Step 37Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 38Tighten the fastener connecting the parking brake cable to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 24 Nm torque.
- Step 39Install the pin connecting the cable to the parking brake shoe shackle.
- Step 40Install the parking brake shoe shackle.
