Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a flat screwdriver.Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). Tip:Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
- Step 4Loosen the wheel hub fastener. Use a drive socket #36. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939)
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.Please note!Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.Step 10Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 13Remove the brake pads.
- Step 14Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 15Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 17Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H4. Use a ratchet wrench.Step 18Remove the brake disc.
- Step 19Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 20Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 21Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 22Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 23Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
- Step 24Unscrew the hub lock nut.
- Step 25Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
- Step 26Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO SPIDER (939). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 27Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 29Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a crowbar.AUTODOC recommends:If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
- Step 30Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 31Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
- Step 32Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 112 Nm torque.
- Step 33Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 34Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
- Step 35Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
