Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.

Remove the brake pads.
Step 14
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 17
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H4. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Remove the brake disc.
Step 19
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 21
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 22
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 23
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
Step 24
Unscrew the hub lock nut.
Step 25
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.

Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 27
Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 29
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a crowbar.
AUTODOC recommends:
If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
Step 30
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 32
Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 112 Nm torque.
Step 33
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 34
Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub.
Step 35
Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 36
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 37
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 152 Nm torque.
Step 49
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Make sure the disc surface is clean before installing the pads.
Step 50
Install the brake pads.
Step 51
Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 52
Connect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 53
Install the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 54
Install the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
Step 55
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 56
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 57
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 58
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 59
Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #36. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 280 Nm torque.
Step 60
Remove the jacks and chocks.
