Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). AUTODOC experts recommend:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your ALFA ROMEO 159 (939) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a flat screwdriver.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Tip:
Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
Step 4

Loosen the wheel hub fastener. Use a drive socket #36. Use a tap wrench.
Step 5

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 6

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. ALFA ROMEO 159 (939)
Step 7

Remove the wheel.
Step 8

Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a crowbar.
Step 9

Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug.

Please note!
Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.
Step 10

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
Step 12

Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 13

Remove the brake pads.
Step 14

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16

Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 17

Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H4. Use a ratchet wrench.

Step 18

Remove the brake disc.
Step 19

Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 21

Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 22

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 23

Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
Step 24

Unscrew the hub lock nut.
Step 25

Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 26

Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 27

Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28

Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 29

Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a crowbar.

AUTODOC recommends:
If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
Step 30

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31

Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 32

Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 112 Nm torque.
Step 33

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 34

Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
Step 35

Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 36

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 37

Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 38

Remove the support from under the arm.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Professionals recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 39

Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 40

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 81 Nm torque.
Step 41

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

AUTODOC recommends:
ALFA ROMEO 159 (939) – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 42

Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 43

Screw the wheel hub lock nut.
Step 44

Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 45

Install the brake disc.
Step 46

Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use HEX No.H4. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). AUTODOC experts recommend:
You might need other tools.
Step 47

Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 48

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 152 Nm torque.
Step 49

Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Make sure the disc surface is clean before installing the pads.
Step 50

Install the brake pads.
Step 51

Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 52

Connect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 53

Install the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 54

Install the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
Step 55

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 56

Install the wheel.

Replacement: wheel bearing – ALFA ROMEO 159 (939). Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 57

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 58

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 59

Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #36. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 280 Nm torque.
Step 60

Remove the jacks and chocks.
