Replacement: strut mount – RENAULT CAPTUR. Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – RENAULT CAPTUR
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Remove the cowl grille seal.
- Step 4Remove the cowl grille clips. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 5Raise up and remove the cowl grille.
- Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the suspension strut mount cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 7Remove the protective cap from the shock absorber strut mount.
- Step 8Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 11Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 12Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 13Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: strut mount – RENAULT CAPTUR. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 14Remove the wheel.
- Step 15Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the stabilizer rod.
- Step 18Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 19Clean the fastener of the bracket that connects the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 20Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Disconnect the brake hose mounting bracket.
- Step 22Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 23Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 24Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 26Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 27Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:RENAULT CAPTUR – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.Step 28Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 29Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: strut mount – RENAULT CAPTUR. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 30Compress the spring.
- Step 31Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 32Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 33Remove the top strut mount.Replacement: strut mount – RENAULT CAPTUR. Tip from AUTODOC:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
- Step 34Install a new top shock strut mount.
- Step 35Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 62 Nm torque.AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 36Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.Step 37Decompress the spring.
- Step 38Remove the assembled shock strut.
- Step 39Treat the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
