How to change front suspension arm / front control arm on VW GOLF 5 (1K1) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: front lower arm – VW Golf 5. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – VW Golf 5. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – VW Golf 5. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Undo the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a drive socket #12.
- Step 7Remove the oil pan cover.
- Step 8Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – VW Golf 5. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.Wear a respirator.
- Step 9Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 10Loosen the front fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 11Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the car body. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 12Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 13Remove the fastening bolts. Use a drive socket #18. Use a drive socket #16.
- Step 14Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm.Step 15Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 16Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 17Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – VW Golf 5. AUTODOC experts recommend:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 18Install the front fastener of the arm. Do not tighten it.
- Step 19Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
- Step 20Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #16.
- Step 21Install the rear fastener of the arm.
- Step 22Screw the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the car body. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
