The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). Take the following steps:

Step 1

Open the bonnet.

Step 2

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Step 3

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 4

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 5

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 6

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27)
Step 7

Remove the wheel.
Step 8

Undo the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 9

Remove the oil pan cover.
Step 10

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
Step 11

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 12

Lower the car.

Step 13

Unscrew the fasteners of the coolant reservoir. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Unscrew the upper fastener of the engine mount. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 16

Support the engine in the oil pan area.

Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). Tip:
Make sure that the engine is supported.
Step 17

Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18

Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #22. Use a tap wrench.
Step 19

Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
Step 20

Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 21

Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a tap wrench.
Step 22

Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 23

Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 24

Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25

Install a new arm.

Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 26

Install the front fastener of the arm.
Step 27

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28

Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29

Install the rear fastener of the arm.
Step 30

Screw the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.

Step 31

Remove the hydraulic transmission jack.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 32

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 33

Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 233 Nm torque.
Step 34

Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 233 Nm torque.
Step 35

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 89 nm torque.
Step 36

Remove the support from under the arm.

Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). Professionals recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 37

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 38

Reinstall the oil pan lower cover.
Step 39

Tighten the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 40

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 41

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 42

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – TOYOTA AVENSIS Saloon (ZRT27, ADT27). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 43

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 44

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 45

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 nm torque.
Step 46

Tighten the upper fastener of the engine mount. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 nm torque.
Step 47

Screw in the coolant reservoir fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 48

Remove the fender protection cover.

Step 49

Close the hood.

Step 50

Remove the jacks and chocks.
