Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. Professionals recommend:

The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 7

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 8

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 9

Unscrew the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use XZN #12. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 13

Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 14

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 16

Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber. Use a ratchet wrench.

Step 17

Remove the arm.
Step 18

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20

Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 21

Attach the ball joint to the control arm.

Step 22

Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23

Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Install a new arm. Use a rubber mallet. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 26

Screw the front arm fastener. Use XZN #12. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 27

Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 28

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 29

Screw in the fasteners connecting the suspension strut fork to the lower control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 31

Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 32

Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 33

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 34

Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 35

Tighten the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork to the lower control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 36

Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use XZN #12. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+180°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 37

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 38

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 nm torque.
Step 39

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 40

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 nm torque.
Step 41

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 42

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 43

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 44

Install the wheel.

Replacement: front lower arm – PORSCHE MACAN. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 45

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 46

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 47

Remove the jacks and chocks.
