The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Undo the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 7
Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 8
Remove the wheel arch cover.
Step 9
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
Step 10
Remove the cotter pin. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 11
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 12
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 13
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 14
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 15
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 16
Remove the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 17
Remove the front fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 18
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 19
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Install a new arm. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. Tip:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 21
Install the front fastener of the arm. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 22
Install the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 23
Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 24
Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Use copper grease.
Step 25
Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a combination spanner #22.
Step 26
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 27
Screw the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 28
Screw the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 29
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 93 nm torque.
Step 30
Tighten the rear fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 93 nm torque.
Step 31
Tighten the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 nm torque.
Step 32
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 33
Install the cotter pin. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 34
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 35
Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat. Screw in the fasteners.
Step 36
Tighten the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 37
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 38
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: front lower arm – Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3. Professionals recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 39
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Honda Insight ZE2_ZE3
Step 40
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 41
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 108 Nm torque.
Step 42
Remove the jacks and chocks.
