Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. Tip from AUTODOC:
Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 10
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 11
Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 14
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 15
Lower the car.
Step 16
Open the bonnet.
Step 17
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 18
Clean the upper fastener of the suspension strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19
Unscrew the top fasteners of the suspension strut mount. Use a drive socket #20.6. Use a ratchet wrench.
AUTODOC recommends:
Skoda Octavia 1U – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 20
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 21
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. Tip from AUTODOC:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 22
Compress the spring.
Step 23
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #20.6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25
Remove the top strut mount.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
Step 26
Release the coil spring.
Step 27
Remove the spring.
Step 28
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush.
Step 29
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 30
Compress the spring.
Step 31
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
Step 32
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #20.6. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 33
Decompress the spring.
Step 34
Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
Step 35
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 36
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 37
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a drive socket #20.6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 38
Treat the upper fastener of the suspension strut mount. Use copper grease.
Step 39
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 40
Close the hood.
Step 41
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 42
Treat the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 43
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 44
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 45
Install the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.
Step 46
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 47
Tighten the lower fasteners of the suspension strut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.+90°
Step 48
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 49
Install the rod fastening to the stabilizer and tighten it. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.+90°
Step 50
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 51
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 52
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Skoda Octavia 1U. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 53
Install the wheel.

Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 54
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 55
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 56
Remove the jacks and chocks.
