Replacement: shock absorbers – SKODA OCTAVIA (1U2). Professionals recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – SKODA OCTAVIA (1U2). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench. - Step 3Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: shock absorbers – SKODA OCTAVIA (1U2). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the lower shock absorber fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Support the rear axle beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fasteners of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 10
Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 11
Unscrew the shock absorber mount fasteners. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SKODA OCTAVIA (1U2) - Step 12
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 13
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 14
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15
Grip the shock absorber in a vice. - Step 16
Remove the shock absorber mount cap. Use a crowbar. - Step 17
Clean the shock absorber rod fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 18
Unscrew the fastener of the shock absorber piston rod. Use a drive socket #17. Use a shock absorber socket #DD5.2. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Remove the shock absorber mount, dust boot, and bump stop.Replacement: shock absorbers – SKODA OCTAVIA (1U2). Tip:Examine the shock absorber dust boot and bump stop. Replace them if necessary. - Step 20
Install the mount, dust boot, and bump stop on a new shock absorber.AUTODOC recommends:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it 3–5 times by hand. - Step 21
Tighten the shock absorber rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a shock absorber socket #DD5.2. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque. - Step 22Treat the shock absorber rod fastener. Use copper grease.Step 23
Install the shock absorber mount cap. - Step 24
Release the vice and take out the shock absorber.
