How to change front springs / front coil springs on RENAULT KANGOO 1 (KC) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for KANGOO (KC0/1_) and other RENAULT models
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Kangoo KC01. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Renault Kangoo KC01 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Remove the shock strut mount cap. Use a crowbar.
Step 4
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 5
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 6
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 7
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 8
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Renault Kangoo KC01
Step 9
Remove the wheel.
Step 10
Clean the shock strut fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 13
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces). Use a hammer. Use a pin punch.
Step 14
Unscrew the upper fastening of the shock absorber strut. Use a drive socket #21.
AUTODOC recommends:
Renault Kangoo KC01 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 15
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 16
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Kangoo KC01. Tip from AUTODOC:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 17
Compress the spring.
Step 18
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use HEX No.H6. Use a combination spanner #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19
Remove the top strut mount.
Step 20
Release the coil spring.
Step 21
Remove the spring.
Step 22
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
Step 23
Install the boot and a bump stop onto the shock absorber.
Step 24
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 25
Compress the spring.
Step 26
Install the top shock strut mount.
Step 27
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use HEX No.H6. Use a combination spanner #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Kangoo KC01. AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 28
Decompress the spring.
Step 29
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 30
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch. Tighten the upper fastening nut of the shock absorber strut. Do not tighten it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Renault Kangoo KC01 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 31
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 33
Install and tighten new bolts of the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 140 Nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Kangoo KC01. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 35
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Renault Kangoo KC01
Step 37
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 38
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 39
Tighten the shock strut top mount. Use a combination spanner #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 62 Nm torque.
Step 40
Install the shock strut mount cap.
Step 41
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 42
Close the hood.
Step 43
Remove the jacks and chocks.
