Replacement: brake discs – FORD TRANSIT Bus. AUTODOC recommends:
- Replace the brake discs and pads in axle sets, regardless of their condition. This will ensure even braking.
- The procedure for replacing the brake discs and pads is identical for both sides of the same axle.
- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Replacement: brake discs – FORD TRANSIT Bus. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2
Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap. - Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 4Remove the wheel centre cap.Step 5
Loosen the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 6
Remove the cotter pin that secures the axle fastener. Use a mounting lever. Use long nose pliers. - Step 7
Remove the castle cover from the axle nut. - Step 8
Clean the axle nut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 9
Loosen the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 10Raise the vehicle.Replacement: brake discs – FORD TRANSIT Bus. Tip from AUTODOC:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 11
Unscrew the wheel nuts.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the nuts. - Step 12
Remove the wheel. - Step 13
Unscrew the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Remove the axle washer. Use a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool. - Step 15
Jack up the suspension arm. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack. - Step 16
Detach the CV axle from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 17Remove the support from under the suspension arm.Replacement: brake discs – FORD TRANSIT Bus. AUTODOC experts recommend:Make sure that the CV axle is not hanging down.Step 18
Spread the brake pads apart. Use a mounting lever. - Step 19
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 20
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a 21 mm combination spanner. Use a 15 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 21
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 22
Remove the brake caliper.AUTODOC expert recommendation:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system. - Step 23Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor. Use long nose pliers.Step 24Detach the brake pad wear sensor connector.Step 25
Remove the brake pads. - Step 26
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 27
Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 28
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 29
Remove the brake caliper bracket. - Step 30
Unscrew the wheel bearing fasteners. Use a T50 Torx bit. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 31
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 32
Remove the wheel hub together with the brake disc. - Step 33
Clean the wheel bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 34
Clean the mounting seat of the brake caliper bracket. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 35
Clean the splines of the CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 36
Clean the brake caliper bracket and check its condition. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner. - Step 37Install new brake pad anti-rattle clips.Replacement: brake discs – FORD TRANSIT Bus. Professionals recommend:Check the brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace them if necessary.Step 38
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 39
Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 40
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 41
Detach the brake disc from the wheel hub. - Step 42
Clean the brake disc surface that is in contact with the wheel rim. Use a wire brush. - Step 43
Install a new brake disc on the wheel hub. - Step 44
Install the fastening bolts. - Step 45
Screw in the brake disc fasteners. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 46
Treat the mounting surface on the wheel bearing. Use ceramic grease. - Step 47
Install the wheel hub together with brake disc.
