Replacement: brake pads – FORD TRANSIT Bus. Professionals recommend:
- Replace the brake pads in axle sets. This will ensure even braking.
- The procedure for replacing the brake pads is identical for both sides of the same axle.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – FORD TRANSIT Bus.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2
Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap. - Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 4
Loosen the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 5Raise the vehicle.Replacement: brake pads – FORD TRANSIT Bus. AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 6
Unscrew the wheel nuts.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the nuts. - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8
Spread the brake pads apart. Use a mounting lever. - Step 9
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a 21 mm combination spanner. Use a 15 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 12
Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake pads – FORD TRANSIT Bus. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system. - Step 13Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor. Use long nose pliers.Step 14Detach the brake pad wear sensor connector.Step 15
Remove the brake pads. - Step 16
Clean the brake caliper pistons. Use a nylon brush. Use a brake cleaner. - Step 17
Retract the brake caliper pistons. Use a brake caliper wind back tool. - Step 18
Treat the brake pads in the areas where they contact the brake caliper bracket. Use anti-squeal paste. - Step 19
Install new brake pads. - Step 20
Treat the brake pad wear sensor connector. Use an electronic spray.
