Replacement: ball joint – RENAULT MEGANE I (BA0/1_). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joints.
- Please note: all work on the car – RENAULT MEGANE I (BA0/1_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the car.Replacement: ball joint – RENAULT MEGANE I (BA0/1_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. RENAULT MEGANE I (BA0/1_)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 10Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
- Step 13Disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
- Step 14Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 15Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush.Step 16Install a new ball joint.Replacement: ball joint – RENAULT MEGANE I (BA0/1_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Do not damage the ball joint cover.Step 17Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Use copper grease.
- Step 18Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
- Step 19Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
