HI, just needing some advice my rexton spr is now showing esp and abs lights in green and hill decent in red. This was after driving along quite a poorly maintained road. Still seems to be driving fine but warnings not going out. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

The ESP and ABS lights in green along with the hill descent light in red on your SsangYong Rexton typically indicate a fault in the vehicle’s electronic stability control system, anti-lock braking system, and hill descent control. Since these systems rely on various sensors, the warnings after driving on a poorly maintained road could result from:

    - Wheel speed sensor faults or dirt/damage: Rough roads can cause sensor wiring damage or dirt accumulation on the sensors, leading to incorrect readings and triggering ABS and ESP warnings.
    - ABS module or electronic control unit (ECU) issues: A fault in the ABS control module or stability control module may cause these warnings to stay on.
    - Brake system issues: Low brake fluid, worn brake pads, or hydraulic blockages can also cause these lights to illuminate.
    - Hill descent control malfunction: This may be linked to the same fault affecting the ABS/ESP or a separate sensor fault.

Even if the car drives normally, these warnings mean the safety systems may not function as intended, so prompt inspection is advisable.

    What to do next:
    - Get the fault codes read with an ABS/ESP compatible scan tool to identify specific sensors or components triggering the faults.
    - Inspect wheel speed sensors and their wiring, especially those near the wheels affected by rough road impacts.
    - Check brake fluid level and brake pads condition.
    - A mechanic or specialist with appropriate diagnostic tools can often reset the light once the underlying fault is repaired, but without solving the root cause, the lights will return.

Driving with these warnings means you may lose the safety benefits of ABS, ESP, and hill descent control, so professional diagnosis and repair are strongly recommended. The Bilstein B6 and B8 struts mainly differ in length and their intended use with springs. The B6 struts are the same length as the original equipment and are designed to work with OEM springs without lowering the car. They provide improved ride quality and handling while maintaining the original ride height. The B8 struts are shorter and specifically made to be used with lowering springs or vehicles with lowered suspension. They have slightly stiffer damping to compensate for the reduced shock travel resulting from the shorter length.

Since you have a BMW 128i with M Sport suspension and do not plan to change the original springs, Bilstein B6 would be the recommended choice. B6 is compatible with your stock springs and will offer enhanced performance and reliability without altering suspension height. Using B8 struts with stock springs is generally not advised because the shorter shocks may cause issues like quicker bump stop engagement.

    In summary:
    - Bilstein B6: OEM length, for use with original springs, gives sporty yet comfortable ride.
    - Bilstein B8: Shorter, for use with lowering springs, slightly stiffer, not for OEM springs.

For your setup, Bilstein B6 is more suitable and reliable for long-lasting use without needing to replace springs.
