Total ABS Brake failure at 1337 miles on Korando e-Motion ultimate SSANGYONG
@Phrovis08.12.2023 10:51MemberI haven't encountered this and didn't think it was possible, but your story will be very helpful to me, thanks for sharing.- @user_118819711.05.2025 09:18MemberSorry to hear that you have had so much trouble. Do either of you still own the car? Cheers Ben.
- @IsaWill27.05.2025 14:03MemberBlimey, mate! Your Korando E-Motion sounds like it's been more trouble than a bag of ferrets. I've been eyeing one myself, but your experience has me thinking twice. Haven't heard of such severe brake issues before, and it's downright scary. Makes you wonder if they've rushed these electric models out without proper testing.
I've got a petrol Korando, and it's been solid as a rock. Maybe they should've stuck to what they know, eh? The ssangyong korando e-motion price seemed reasonable, but if it's going to be a glorified paperweight half the time, it's not worth the hassle. Hope you get it sorted soon, and thanks for the heads up! - @george.evans27.05.2025 14:17MemberCrikey, what a nightmare! I've had my Korando E-Motion for about six months now, and while it's not been perfect, I haven't experienced anything near as dramatic as your ABS failure. That said, I've had a few niggles with the infotainment system, and the range isn't quite what was advertised.
Have you tried reaching out to any Ssangyong korando e-motion uk owners' groups? Might be worth seeing if anyone else has had similar issues. Sometimes these early adopter problems get ironed out in later production runs. Fingers crossed they sort you out properly – no one should have to deal with potentially lethal brake failures! - @M.Roberts27.05.2025 14:40MemberWell, blow me down! Your Korando E-Motion saga reads like a proper British farce, minus the laughs. I was seriously considering one after reading a glowing ssangyong korando e-motion review in What Car?, but your experience has me reconsidering faster than you can say "dodgy brakes."
It's a shame, really. The Korando E-Motion looked like it could be a decent entry into the electric SUV market. But if they can't get the basics right, like, oh I don't know, making the blooming thing stop, then what hope is there? Might have to look at other options. Anyone fancy a nice, reliable milk float instead?

Bought Korando E-Motion October 22, moving down from a
Ssangyong Rexton which had never put a foot wrong in four years.
Had a few issues with the e-motion not starting and
‘’problem in charging foreign matter detected’’, warning light came on was advised
by dealer it maybe because the main battery was not being charged due to short
distances being driven and dirt on the sensors in the foreign matter case,
decided to persevere.
Had slight, no fault, collision 31-12-23 with front offside
light cluster being broken rendering the car illegal to drive, waited 8 months
… yes 8 months for spare part to arrive in fairness may still be waiting
longer if Ssangyong customer services had not got involved after me complaining
to them direct, they removed light cluster from another car or I may still be
waiting, at this point car had less than 1000 miles on the clock, got car back
end of October,
On 1st December at 1337 miles, yes 1337 miles ABS brakes
failed along with Electronic Stability control, Electronic Brake Force
distribution, Anti-Lock brake system, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Auto
Hold leaving the car unstoppable and undrivable.
Needless to say, the one-year breakdown recovery had expired
early in November, I am now expected to pay for the recovery and transport to
the local garage to have it repaired under warranty?
Ssangyong have washed their hands of the problem, very
disappointed.
Only my opinion but who in their right mind would buy a car
where the ABS brakes and associated stopping modes fail rendering the car
virtually unstoppable.
Has anyone else encountered this issue ?
