- @secret_m30.10.2025 13:10MemberRight mate, it's underneath the engine in a housing – not your typical spin-on type. You'll need to get under there and look for the round plastic cap on the driver's side of the sump. It unscrews anticlockwise with a big socket, then the filter element pulls out from inside. Bit fiddly first time but straightforward once you know where it is.
- @FWB30.10.2025 15:08MemberHad mine done few months back, can confirm it's the cartridge-type filter inside that housing cap underneath. Mate of mine showed me - you've got to replace the O-ring that comes with the new filter too otherwise you'll get a weepy mess everywhere. Housing torques up to about 25Nm when you put it back.
- @Oliver Jones30.10.2025 17:09@user_937458Member@user_105467 It's basically hiding under the engine bay - access from below. Not the easiest to reach without ramps or a pit but doable. The housing is maybe 10-15cm across, can't miss it once you're under there. Make sure you've got a decent oil drain pan because it'll drip when you crack it open!
- @C. Smith30.10.2025 17:33MemberYeh as others said, underneath in that filter housing. I always loosen the oil filler cap on top of the engine first before getting under - helps it drain better. The filter itself is about 100mm tall, 62mm diameter - comes with the rubber seals in the box if you buy a decent one.
- @Harry.B30.10.2025 18:03MemberChanged mine last service, it's definitely bottom access only on the 2.0 petrol. Worth having a proper filter wrench or big socket because the housing can be on there pretty tight. First time I did it took me ages to find the bloody thing cos I was expecting it to be on the side of the block like me old motor 😅
- @IsaWill30.10.2025 18:39Member@Harry.B Haha same here! Spent 10 mins looking round the sides before realising it's tucked right underneath near the sump plug. Once you spot it though it's easy enough. Just remember - new O-ring, bit of fresh oil on the seal, don't overtighten it when you put it back.
- @Jack.Taylor31.10.2025 21:12MemberOne thing I'd add - make sure you let the engine sit for a few minutes after switching off before you crack that filter housing open. Still had warm oil dribble down me arm once when I rushed it straight after parking up. Not the end of the world but not pleasant either 😂 The housing is basically in line with the drain plug, just forward a bit towards the front of the car.
