Hi all! I’m thinking about buying a 2012 Škoda Yeti 4×4 and I’m curious about its reliability. Have any of you experienced any common issues like transmission problems, electrical faults, or rust? Or do you think it’s a solid investment overall?

The 2012 Škoda Yeti 4×4 is generally regarded as a solid and practical compact SUV, but there are some common reliability issues to be aware of before buying:

    Reliability and Common Issues:
    - Engine and Turbocharger: Some diesel models, especially with the 2.0-litre engine, can experience turbocharger failures, often linked to infrequent servicing or incorrect engine oil. High oil consumption and elevated oil levels due to diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration are also reported concerns.
    - Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF): Diesel Yetis require regular longer drives to properly regenerate the DPF. Failure to do so can cause clogging and trigger warning lights, necessitating service visits.
    - Electrical faults: Non-engine electrical issues, such as immobiliser faults that can leave you stranded, and minor gremlins like rear window sensors or fuel filler port failures, have been reported but usually don’t affect drivability.
    - Transmission: Manual 6-speed gearboxes are generally reliable, but if your model has a DSG automatic, servicing the dual-clutch system (including the Haldex 4WD system) is important to avoid problems.
    - Rust and Off-road Damage: Check carefully for rust, especially underbody corrosion and door bottoms, as well as any off-road damage or mud trapped under the vehicle, which can accelerate corrosion.
    - Suspension and Chassis: Suspension components like stabilizer rods and silent blocks may need replacement over time, but overall the chassis is considered reliable if serviced properly.
    - Recalls: Some recalls affected side airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners on later models, so verify with a dealer that any recall work has been completed.

    Overall Assessment:

The Škoda Yeti 4×4 is praised for its versatility, practicality, and solid build quality, especially if well maintained with documented servicing. The 4×4 system adds capability and is preferred over 2WD versions. While some issues like turbo and DPF problems are worth checking, many owners find the Yeti to be a reliable and enjoyable vehicle if these points are monitored.

    Buying Tips:
    - Verify full service history, especially oil changes with the correct oil type.
    - Inspect for rust and underbody damage carefully.
    - Test the electrical systems and ensure no warning lights are present.
    - If automatic, check DSG and Haldex maintenance records.
    - Confirm recall work has been done.

In summary, the 2012 Škoda Yeti 4×4 is a solid investment if you find one that has been properly maintained and inspected for the common issues above. Its practicality and 4WD capability make it a versatile choice in its segment.
