Rattling coming from the engine PEUGEOT 2008 Estate (CU_) (03.2013 - ...)

My pure tech 1.2 has a rattling coming from the engine when it is being driven I think it may be coming from the part that is pointed out in the picture what is this part? There seems to be a metal cover over it which has rusted and split it open a little and it is loose which is what I think is causing the rattling is this a major issue?

What you indicated is most likely the catalytic converter heat shield. The knocking sound from a loose catalytic converter heat shield is not a critical problem for the engine operation. The engine is not knocking because of the heat shield, but the heat shield is simply making noise. More in-depth diagnostics are needed to correctly and more accurately determine the knocking sound. It is not recommended to operate the car until the cause of the knocking is determined, as this can lead to more expensive engine repairs.
