Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Estate (S124). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Estate (S124). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Estate (S124) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.Step 7
Remove the plastic car body protective cover. - Step 8
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 9
Make a mark on the camber adjustment bolt. - Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use XZN #12. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer. - Step 12
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13
Detach the ball joint from the rear knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 14
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar. - Step 15
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 16
Install a new arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Estate (S124). Use only new bolts and nuts for installation.Do not damage the ball joint cover. - Step 17
Install the fastening bolt. - Step 18Attach the ball joint to the rear knuckle.Step 19
Screw in the fasteners connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 20
Adjust the position of the alignment bolt according to the mark.
