Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.Step 7Remove the plastic car body protective cover.
- Step 8Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Make a mark on the camber adjustment bolt.
- Step 10Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use XZN #12. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 12Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Detach the ball joint from the rear knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 14Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Install a new arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: rear suspension lower control arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). Use only new bolts and nuts for installation.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 17Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 18Attach the ball joint to the rear knuckle.Step 19Screw in the fasteners connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Adjust the position of the alignment bolt according to the mark.
