Replacement: ball joint – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joints.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: ball joint – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench. - Step 3Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: ball joint – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the ball joint fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #22. - Step 8
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9
Disconnect the ball joint from the control arm. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 10
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 11
Remove the ball joint. - Step 12Support the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Step 13Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush.Step 14
Install a new ball joint. - Step 15
Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
