Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat B6 3C Variant. AUTODOC experts recommend:

The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the right and left shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Both mounts of the rear shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat 3C B6 Variant. Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat B6 3C Variant. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Support the stub axle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 7

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 9

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.

Step 10

Detach the lower part of the shock absorber.
Step 11

Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat Variant B6. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 12

Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use Torx T25. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat 3C B6 Variant. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 14

Remove the shock absorber.
Step 15

Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a crowbar.
Step 16

Clean the shock absorber rod fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17

Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable wrench.
Step 18

Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
Step 19

Remove the top strut mount.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat B6 3C Variant. Professionals recommend:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
Step 20

Install the new shock absorber mount.
Step 21

Install the mount, boot and bump stop onto a new shock absorber.
Step 22

Screw the shock strut piston rod upper fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 23

Treat the shock absorber rod fastener. Use copper grease.
Step 24

Install the protective shock absorber mounting cap.
Step 25

Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 26

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat Variant B6. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 27

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+45°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 28

Install and tighten the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use Torx T25. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29

Install the fastening bolt. Attach the lower part of the shock absorber.
Step 30

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 180 Nm torque.
Step 31

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 32

Remove the support from under the stub axle.

AUTODOC recommends:
VW Passat 3C B6 Variant – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 33

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.

Step 34

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 35

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Passat B6 3C Variant. AUTODOC experts recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 36

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. VW Passat Variant B6
Step 37

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 38

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 39

Remove the jacks and chocks.
