Replacement: rear lower arm – VW Passat 3C5. Professionals recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear lower arm – VW Passat 3C B6 Variant. Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: rear lower arm – VW Passat Variant B6. AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Clean the fasteners of the stabilizer bush brackets. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 9Unscrew the fasteners of the stabilizer bush brackets. Use XZN #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolt. Use a flat screwdriver. Use a crowbar.Step 12Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 13Install a new arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Install the fastening bolt. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Screw in the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Screw the fasteners of the stabilizer bush brackets. Use XZN #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 45 nm torque.
