Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the boot lid.Step 2Move the folding shelf and detach it from the retainers. By doing this, you will get access to the side trim plastic panels.
- Step 3Fold down the backrests of the rear seats.
- Step 4Raise the lower lining of the boot.
- Step 5Remove the side plastic cover.
- Step 6Remove the clips of the boot front lower lining.
- Step 7Remove the boot front lower lining. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 8Unscrew the fastener of the central protective plastic panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Lift up the central plastic cover (the battery cover).
- Step 10Remove the seat belt trim cover.
- Step 11Remove the plastic door sill plate.
- Step 12Unscrew the fastener and remove the boot side sound insulation.
- Step 13Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 16Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
- Step 17Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 18Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 19Remove the wheel.
- Step 20Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 21Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 23Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 24Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
- Step 25Remove the shock absorber.
- Step 26Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_). Tip from AUTODOC:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
- Step 27Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
- Step 28Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. TOYOTA COROLLA Saloon (NRE18_, ZRE17_, ZRE18_, NDE18_)
- Step 29Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 30Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
- Step 31Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
