Replacement: shock absorbers – FORD FIESTA VI Van. AUTODOC experts recommend:

Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – FORD FIESTA VI Van – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: shock absorbers – FORD FIESTA VI Van. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Unscrew the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 7

Move the part aside.
Step 8

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 9

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 10

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – FORD FIESTA VI Van. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 14

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 15

Remove the shock absorber.
Step 16

Grip the shock absorber in a vice.
Step 17

Clean the shock absorber rod fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18

Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket DD№5.2. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19

Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.

Replacement: shock absorbers – FORD FIESTA VI Van. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Τhoroughly examine the shock absorber mount, dust boot, bump stop. Replace them if necessary.Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 20

Install the mount, boot and bump stop onto a new shock absorber.
Step 21

Tighten the shock absorber rod nut. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket DD№5.2. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 nm torque.
Step 22

Release the vice and take out the shock absorber.

Step 23

Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.

Replacement: shock absorbers – FORD FIESTA VI Van. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 25

Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 26

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 27

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 28

Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat. Screw in the fasteners. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 30

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 31

Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 32

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 33

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 Nm torque.
Step 34

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 35

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

AUTODOC recommends:
FORD FIESTA VI Van – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 36

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 37

Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum. Use copper grease.
Step 38

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. FORD FIESTA VI Van
Step 39

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 40

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 41

Remove the jacks and chocks.
