How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on MERCEDES-BENZ B200 (W245) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for B-Class (W245) and other MERCEDES-BENZ models
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 13
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 16
Detach the suspension arm from the rear knuckle.
Step 17
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 18
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 19
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 20
Remove the spring.
Step 21
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 23
Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 24
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25
Attach the suspension arm to the rear knuckle.
Step 26
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 27
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Mercedes W245 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 28
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 29
Tighten the fastener connecting the suspension arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 Nm torque.
Step 30
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 31
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.
Step 32
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 33
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the support from under the arm.
Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 35
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 37
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
