Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. Tip from AUTODOC:
- Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #H12. - Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 10
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 11
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 12
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 13
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 14
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 16
Detach the suspension arm from the rear knuckle. - Step 17
Remove the support from under the arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – Mercedes W245. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 18
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 19
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 20
Remove the spring. - Step 21
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats. - Step 23
Connect the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 24
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
