- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake caliper repair kit – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W202). Take the following steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2
Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap. - Step 3Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 4
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench. - Step 5Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W202) - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8Clean the brake pad guide pins. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.Step 9
Remove the brake pad guide pins. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 10
Remove the retaining spring of the brake pads. - Step 11
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar (2 pieces). - Step 12
Remove the brake pads. - Step 13
Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp. - Step 14
Clean the mounting seat of the brake hose on the brake caliper. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15
Loosen the brake hose fastener. Use a combination spanner #14. - Step 16
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 17
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 18
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 19
Remove the brake caliper. - Step 20
Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. - Step 21
Clean the brake bleeder screw. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Undo the brake bleeder screw. Use a drive socket #9. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the two parts of the brake caliper. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 24
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 25
Separate the two parts of the caliper from each other. - Step 26
Remove the o-rings. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 27
Remove the dust boots of the brake caliper pistons. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 28
Remove the brake caliper pistons. Use water pump pliers. - Step 29
Remove the piston O-rings. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 30
Clean the mounting seats of the pistons and related components. Use a wire brush. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 31
Install new caliper piston O-rings. - Step 32
Fit dust boots on new brake caliper pistons.Replacement: brake caliper repair kit – MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS (W202). AUTODOC recommends:Treat the pistons and their seats with brake fluid to prevent scoring on the walls of the cylinders during installation. - Step 33
Install the new brake caliper pistons. - Step 34
Install dust boot retaining rings. - Step 35Install new o-rings.Step 36
Join the two parts of the caliper together. - Step 37
Install the fastening bolts.
