Replace both handbrake cables.
All the work should be carried out with the engine switched off.

Replacement: hand brake cable – NISSAN INTERSTAR Bus (X70). Take the following steps:

Step 1

If you are going to use a jack, secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 3

Raise the vehicle.

Warning!
If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel fasteners.

Replacement: hand brake cable – NISSAN INTERSTAR Bus (X70). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fasteners.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Fully release the handbrake.
Step 7

Clean the handbrake cable equaliser. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8

Loosen the handbrake cable adjustment nut. Use a 6 mm combination spanner. Use a 13 mm combination spanner.
Step 9

Disconnect the handbrake cable from the equaliser bar.
Step 10

Disconnect the parts securing the handbrake cable to the car body. Use a mounting lever.
Step 11

Clean the fastener that connects the handbrake cable clamp to the bracket on the car body. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 12

Unscrew the handbrake cable clamp fastener. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 14

Detach the handbrake cable from the car body. Use cutting pliers.
Step 15

Remove the U-clip securing the handbrake cable to the brake caliper. Use combination pliers.
Step 16

Detach the handbrake cable from the brake caliper.
Step 17

Clean the handbrake cable mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 18

Install a new handbrake cable.
Step 19

Attach the handbrake cable to the brake caliper.
Step 20

Install the U-clip securing the handbrake cable to the brake caliper. Use combination pliers.
Step 21

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 22

Screw in the handbrake cable clamp fastener. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23

Secure the handbrake cable to the car body.
Step 24

Connect the handbrake cable to the equaliser bar.
Step 25

Adjust the tension of the handbrake cables using the adjustment nut. Use a 6 mm combination spanner. Use a 13 mm combination spanner.
Step 26

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 27

Treat the brake disc surface that contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 28

Install the wheel.

To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fasteners.
Step 29

Screw in the wheel fasteners. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 30

Check that the new component is working.
Step 31

Lower the car and tighten the wheel fasteners in a criss-cross pattern. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 172 N·m.
Step 32

Remove the jack and wheel chocks.
