- The procedure for replacing the right and left brake calipers on the same axle is identical.
- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Replacement: brake caliper – NISSAN INTERSTAR Bus (X70). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2
Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap. - Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 4
Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 5Raise the vehicle.Replacement: brake caliper – NISSAN INTERSTAR Bus (X70). Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 6
Unscrew the wheel fasteners.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners. - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8
Remove the handbrake cable retaining clip. Use adjustable pliers. - Step 9
Disconnect the handbrake cable from the parking brake lever on the caliper. Use adjustable pliers. - Step 10
Spread the brake pads apart. Use a mounting lever. - Step 11
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 12
Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 13 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 14
Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – NISSAN INTERSTAR Bus (X70). AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system. - Step 15
Remove the brake pads. - Step 16Disconnect the handbrake cable from the bracket on the caliper.Step 17
Prepare a fluid drain pan. - Step 18
Attach the brake hose clamp to the brake hose. - Step 19
Clean the fastener that connects the brake hose to the brake caliper. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 20
Loosen the fastener that connects the brake hose to the brake caliper. Use a 14 mm combination spanner. - Step 21
Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. - Step 22
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 23
Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 24
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 25
Remove the brake caliper bracket. - Step 26
Remove the brake caliper guide pins. - Step 27
Remove the guide pin boots. - Step 28
Clean the guide pin mounting seats on the caliper bracket. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. Use a wire bore brush. - Step 29
Install new brake caliper guide pin boots. - Step 30
Treat the caliper guide pins. Use brake caliper guide pin grease. - Step 31
Install the new guide pins into the caliper bracket. - Step 32
Install the brake caliper bracket. - Step 33
Install the fastening bolts. - Step 34
Tighten the fasteners of the brake caliper bracket. Use a 19 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 110 N·m. - Step 35
Clean the fitting on the brake hose that connects the hose to the brake caliper. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 36
Screw the brake hose into the new brake caliper.
