                      Wire brush
                    
                      WD-40 spray
                    
                      All-purpose cleaning spray
                    
                      Ceramic grease
                    
                      Torque wrench
                    
                      6 mm combination spanner
                    
                      13 mm combination spanner (2 pieces)
                    
                      10 mm socket
                    
                      21 mm wheel impact socket
                    
                      Ratchet wrench or power tool for removal/installation of threaded fasteners
                    
                      Tommy bar
                    
                      Long nose pliers
                    
                      Car lift or inspection pit, jack with jack stands, and wheel chocks

Replace both handbrake cables.
All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.

Replacement: hand brake cable – Ford Transit Mk7 van. Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 3

Raise the car using a lift, or jack it up from the required side.

Replacement: hand brake cable – Ford Transit Mk7 van. Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel nuts.

Caution!
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the nuts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Fully release the handbrake.
Step 7

Clean the handbrake cable equaliser. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8

Unscrew the lock nut and loosen the handbrake cable adjustment nut. Use two 13 mm combination spanners.
Step 9

Disconnect the handbrake cable from the equaliser.
Step 10

Clean the points where the handbrake cable is attached to the handbrake actuator lever on the brake caliper, to the bracket on the brake caliper, and to the bracket on the leaf spring. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 11

Disconnect the handbrake cable end from the handbrake actuator lever on the brake caliper.
Step 12

Release the cable from the bracket on the leaf spring.
Step 13

Detach the handbrake cable from the bracket on the brake caliper. Use long nose pliers.
Step 14

Clean the fastener that connects the handbrake cable to the car body. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 15

Unscrew the handbrake cable fastener. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 17

Detach the handbrake cable from the car body. Use long nose pliers.
Step 18

Clean the handbrake cable mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19

Install a new handbrake cable.
Step 20

Attach the handbrake cable to the car body.
Step 21

Install the fastening bolt. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Tighten the handbrake cable fastener. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 9 N·m.
Step 23

Install the handbrake cable into the bracket on the brake caliper.
Step 24

Secure the cable in the bracket on the leaf spring.
Step 25

Connect the handbrake cable end to the handbrake actuator lever on the brake caliper.
Step 26

Connect the handbrake cable to the equaliser.
Step 27

Screw on the adjustment nut.
Step 28

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 29

Treat the wheel hub surface that contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 30

Install the wheel.

Replacement: hand brake cable – Ford Transit Mk7 van. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing on the fastening nuts.
Step 31

Screw on the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 32

Replace the other handbrake cable by following the steps above.

Step 33

Adjust the tension of the handbrake cables using the adjustment nut. Use a 6 mm combination spanner. Use a 13 mm combination spanner.
Step 34

Tighten the lock nut on the adjustment nut. Use two 13 mm combination spanners.
Step 35

Lower the car and tighten the wheel nuts in a criss-cross pattern. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 200 N·m.
Step 36

Remove the jack, jack stands, and wheel chocks.
