Replacement: wheel bearing – RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 4Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_)
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Unscrew the brake hose fastening bracket from the shock strut. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Disconnect the brake hose mounting bracket.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 14Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 15Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the brake disc.
- Step 18Remove the wheel arch cover. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 19Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 20Detach the ABS sensor connector.
- Step 21Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 23Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 24Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 26Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 27Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 28Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 29Release the fastener that connects the control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 30Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
- Step 31Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Replacement: wheel bearing – RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_). AUTODOC recommends:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 32Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 33Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 34Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.Step 35Grip the wheel hub together with the bearing in a vice.
- Step 36Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 37Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 38Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 39Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller. Use a bearing separator.
- Step 40Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 41Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 42Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 43Release the vice and take out the wheel hub together with the bearing.Step 44Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 45Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 46Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – RENAULT MEGANE II Coupé-Cabriolet (EM0/1_). Tip from AUTODOC:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 47Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 48Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 49Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
