Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Open the bonnet.

Step 2

Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Step 3

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 4

Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 5

Raise the car.

Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC experts recommend:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 6

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 7

Remove the wheel.
Step 8

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 9

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10

Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Remove the fastening bolts.

Step 12

Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 13

Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14

Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 16

Remove the brake disc.
Step 17

Clean the hub bearing protection cap. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18

Remove the hub bearing cap. Use a crowbar.
Step 19

Loosen the wheel hub fastening nut screw. Use Torx T40. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20

Unscrew the hub nut. Use a combination spanner #32.
Step 21

Remove the wheel hub together with the bearing.
Step 22

Clean the wheel stub axle. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 23

Clean the ABS sensor. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 24

Remove elements of the bearings from the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 25

Dismantle the outer rings of the wheel bearings. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a universal puller.
Step 26

Clean the mounting seats of the wheel bearings. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 27

Install the outer rings of the new wheel bearings. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 28

Treat the wheel bearings. Use bearing grease.
Step 29

Reinstall the elements of the bearings in the wheel hub.
Step 30

Install the wheel bearing oil seal. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 31

Treat the stub axle. Use bearing grease.
Step 32

Reinstall the hub together with the new bearings.
Step 33

Screw on the hub nut.
Step 34

Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use ceramic grease.

Step 35

Install the brake disc.
Step 36

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 37

Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
Step 38

Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 39

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 40

Tighten the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 115 Nm torque.
Step 41

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124)
Step 42

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 43

Adjust the axial clearance by tightening the adjusting nut. Use a combination spanner #32.

AUTODOC recommends:
See your car’s repair manual for exact adjustment instructions.
Step 44

Spin the wheel to distribute the new grease evenly on the wheel bearings.
Step 45

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 46

Remove the wheel.
Step 47

Tighten the screw of the wheel hub fastening nut. Use Torx T40. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 11 Nm torque.
Step 48

Install the hub bearing cap. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 49

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 50

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 51

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 52

Install the wheel.

Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 53

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 54

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 55

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Step 56

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Step 57

Close the bonnet.
