Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 3Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 4Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Raise the car.Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC experts recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 10Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolts.Step 12Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – MERCEDES-BENZ KOMBI Estate (S124). AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 13Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 16Remove the brake disc.
- Step 17Clean the hub bearing protection cap. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Remove the hub bearing cap. Use a crowbar.
- Step 19Loosen the wheel hub fastening nut screw. Use Torx T40. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Unscrew the hub nut. Use a combination spanner #32.
- Step 21Remove the wheel hub together with the bearing.
- Step 22Clean the wheel stub axle. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 23Clean the ABS sensor. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 24Remove elements of the bearings from the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 25Dismantle the outer rings of the wheel bearings. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a universal puller.
- Step 26Clean the mounting seats of the wheel bearings. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 27Install the outer rings of the new wheel bearings. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 28Treat the wheel bearings. Use bearing grease.
- Step 29Reinstall the elements of the bearings in the wheel hub.
- Step 30Install the wheel bearing oil seal. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 31Treat the stub axle. Use bearing grease.
- Step 32Reinstall the hub together with the new bearings.
- Step 33Screw on the hub nut.
