Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your AUDI R8 42 car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – AUDI R8 42.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel hub fastener. Use HEX No.H16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 4Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 5Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. AUDI R8 42
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Disconnect the brake pads wear sensor. Use a crowbar.Please note!Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.
- Step 9Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 10Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 12Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 13Disconnect the ABS sensor cable fastener. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Remove the brake disc.
- Step 16Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
- Step 17Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 18Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 19Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 20Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 23Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 24Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 26Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Step 27Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. Tip:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 28Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 29Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 30Remove the wheel hub together with the bearing. Use the hub slide hammer puller.
- Step 31Grip the wheel hub together with the bearing in a vice.
- Step 32Remove the hub bearing mounting. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller.
- Step 33Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use the bearing puller. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller.
- Step 34Install a new hub bearing and secure it.
- Step 35Release the vice and take out the wheel hub together with the bearing.Step 36Press a new bearing into the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 37Adjust the wheel bearing.Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. AUTODOC experts recommend:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 38Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 39Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
- Step 40Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 Nm torque.+90°Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. Tip from AUTODOC:Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
- Step 41Remove the support from under the arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI R8 42. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.Step 42Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
