How to change Front wheel bearing on AUDI 80 B4 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for 80 Saloon (8C2, B4) and other AUDI models
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. AUTODOC recommends:
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your Audi 80 B4 car.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the wheel hub fastener.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #24.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening.Use a drive socket #17.Use a tap wrench.
Step 11
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 12
Remove the brake disc.
Step 13
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #21.Use a drive socket #22.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 16
Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #17.Use a drive socket #17.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 19
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 20
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Use a pin punch.Use a hammer.
Step 21
Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.Use a rubber mallet.
Step 22
Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
Step 23
Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle.Use a bush and bearing driver set.Use a hammer.
Step 24
Press out the wheel hub bearing.Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 25
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 26
Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle.Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. Tip from AUTODOC:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 27
Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle.Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 28
Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
Step 29
Connect the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 30
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 31
Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32
Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.
Step 33
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 34
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 35
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 36
Tighten the hub.Use a drive socket #24.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 200 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 37
Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #17.Use a drive socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Step 38
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #21.Use a drive socket #22.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 39
Clean the hub.Use a wire brush.Treat the contacting surface.Use copper grease.
Step 40
Install the brake disc.
Step 41
Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 42
Tighten the brake caliper bracket.Use a drive socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 125 Nm torque.
Step 43
Treat the fasteners of the ball joint.Treat the shock strut fasteners.Use copper grease.
Step 44
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim.Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 45
Clean the brake disk surface.Use a brake cleaner.
Step 46
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel bearing – Audi 80 B4. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 47
Screw in the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 48
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 49
Remove the jacks and chocks.
