Replace the stabiliser links on Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon in pairs.
The replacement procedure is identical for both stabiliser links on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a drive socket #18.
Step 8
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the stabiliser link to the stabiliser bar. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6.
Step 9
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon. Professionals recommend:
Examine stabiliser bushes. Replace them if needed.
Step 10
Install a new rod, tighten the fasteners. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6.
Step 11
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 12
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 13
Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use copper grease.
Step 14
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 15
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon
Step 16
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 17
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 18
Remove the jacks and chocks.
