Remove the wheel.

Remove the axle nut cotter pin. Use a crowbar.

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.

Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 20
Remove the stabilizer rod.

Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a tap wrench.

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.

Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 27
Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.

Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 29
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 31
Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.

Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.

Citroen Xsara Picasso – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 34
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #14.

Remove the suspension strut.

Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.

Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.

Compress the spring.

Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #22. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.

Remove the top strut mount.
Step 40
Release the coil spring.
Step 41
Remove the spring.

Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
Step 43
Remove the old shock absorber from the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Τhoroughly examine the shock absorber mount, dust boot, bump stop. Replace them if necessary.Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.

Install the new shock absorber on the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
Step 45
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 46
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 47
Compress the spring.

Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.

Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #22. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 49 Nm torque.
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.

Decompress the spring.

Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 52
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.

Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Do not tighten it.

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.

Install the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.

Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #16.

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

Replacement: suspension strut – Citroen Xsara Picasso. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.

Install the drive shaft.

Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.

Install the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #17. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 44 Nm torque.

Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.

Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 245 Nm torque.

Install the axle nut cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
Step 68
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 45 Nm torque.
Step 69
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 70
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 71
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: suspension strut – Citroen Xsara Picasso. Tip from AUTODOC:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

Install the wheel.

Install and secure the cowl grille.

Attach the retainers of the upper part of the microfilter housing.

Reinstall the wiper arms.

Tighten the fasteners of the wiper arms. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 19 Nm torque.

Make sure not to mix up the wiper arms on the driver's and passenger's sides.

Install the nut covers of the windscreen wiper arms.

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 Nm torque.

Remove the fender protection cover.

Close the hood.

Remove the jacks and chocks.
