Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 9.1Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the steering knuckle.Step 9.2Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 10Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 11.1Unscrew the brake caliper fastening.Step 11.2Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 13Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14.1Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.Step 14.2Use a combination spanner #19.
- Step 15Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a hammer.Step 16Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27.
- Step 17Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.Step 18Remove the fastening bolt.Step 19Remove the drive shaft.Step 20Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21.1Unscrew the nut and remove the stabilizer rod from the shock strut.Step 21.2Use a combination spanner #19. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Lower the car.Step 23Open the hood.Step 24Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 25Remove the cowl grille seal.Step 26Raise up and remove the cowl grille.
- Step 27Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use WD-40 spray.Step 28Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8) – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
- Step 29Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 30Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Tip:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 31Compress the spring.Step 32Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 33Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 34Remove the top strut mount.
- Step 35Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Tip from AUTODOC:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.Step 36Install a new strut mount.
- Step 37Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Professionals recommend:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
