Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). AUTODOC recommends:

The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
Be sure to replace all self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8)
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 7

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 9.1

Disconnect the wiring and the brake hose from the bracket on the steering knuckle.

Step 9.2

Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 10

Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 11.1

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening.

Step 11.2

Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12

Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 13

Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14.1

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.

Step 14.2

Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 15

Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a hammer.

Step 16

Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27.
Step 17

Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.

Step 18

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 19

Remove the drive shaft.

Step 20

Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21.1

Unscrew the nut and remove the stabilizer rod from the shock strut.

Step 21.2

Use a combination spanner #19. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Lower the car.

Step 23

Open the hood.

Step 24

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Step 25

Remove the cowl grille seal.

Step 26

Raise up and remove the cowl grille.
Step 27

Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 28

Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.

AUTODOC recommends:
SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8) – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 29

Remove the suspension strut.
Step 30

Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Tip:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 31

Compress the spring.

Step 32

Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 33

Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 34

Remove the top strut mount.
Step 35

Clean the mounting seat of the shock strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Tip from AUTODOC:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
Step 36

Install a new strut mount.
Step 37

Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Professionals recommend:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 38

Decompress the spring.
Step 39

Remove the assembled shock strut.

Step 40

Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 41

Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Do not tighten it.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8)
Step 42

Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 43

Install and secure the cowl grille.
Step 44

Install the cowl grille seal.

Step 45

Remove the fender protection cover.

Step 46

Close the hood.

Step 47

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 48

Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
Step 49

Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
Step 50

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 nm torque.

Step 51

Install the fastening bolt.

Step 52

Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 200 Nm torque.
Step 53

Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link. Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 54.1

Install the brake caliper and fix it.

Step 54.2

Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 55

Install the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 56

Connect the wiring and the brake hose to the bracket on the steering knuckle.
Step 57

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 58

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 59

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 60

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 61

Install the wheel.

Replacement: strut mount – SEAT ALTEA XL (5P5, 5P8). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 62

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 63

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.

Step 64

Remove the jacks and chocks.
