To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 20
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 21
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
Replacement: strut mount – ABARTH 500C / 595C (312_). Tip:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 22
Compress the spring.
Step 23
Clean the shock absorber rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #27. Use HEX No.H7.
Step 25
Remove the top mount, the support bearing and the upper spring cup.
Step 26
Install the top mount, the strut mount bearing and the upper spring cup. Use a crowbar.
Step 27
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use box wrench #27. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Replacement: strut mount – ABARTH 500C / 595C (312_). Tip from AUTODOC:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 28
Decompress the spring.
Step 29
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 30
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch. Tighten the upper fastening nut of the shock absorber strut. Do not tighten it.
Step 31
Treat the shock strut mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 32
Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle. Install the new steering knuckle bolts.
Step 33
Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use box wrench #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 85 Nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Step 35
Connect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable to the shock absorber strut. Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 36
Secure the stabilizer link on the suspension strut. Use box wrench #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use HEX No.H5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Step 37
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 38
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. ABARTH 500C / 595C (312_)
Step 39
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 40
Tighten the shock strut top mount. Use a combination spanner #19. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.
Step 41
Install and secure the cowl grille.
Step 42
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 43
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 44
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 45
Close the hood.
