Replacement: front lower arm – VW NEW BEETLE (9C1, 1C1). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – VW NEW BEETLE (9C1, 1C1). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW NEW BEETLE (9C1, 1C1)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – VW NEW BEETLE (9C1, 1C1). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
- Step 7Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 8Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 9Loosen the front fastener of the control arm. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 10Unscrew the rear arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 11Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.
- Step 12Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
- Step 14Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm.
- Step 15Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 16Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 17Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – VW NEW BEETLE (9C1, 1C1). AUTODOC experts recommend:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 18Install the control arm fasteners.
- Step 19Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
