The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5)
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm.Use a drive socket #16.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Clean all joints of the arm.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 11
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.Use a ball joint puller.
Step 12
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18.Use a tap wrench.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the front fastener of the control arm.
Step 14
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe.Use a combination spanner #18.Use a drive socket #18.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 16
Remove the arm.Use a crowbar.
Step 17
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm.Use a drive socket #13.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 19
Remove the ball joint.
Step 20
Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
Step 21
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 22
Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm.Use a drive socket #13.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90°
Step 23
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24
Install a new arm.
Step 25
Install the control arm fasteners.Use a flat screwdriver.Use a rubber mallet.
Step 26
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 27
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #19.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90°
Step 28
Support the arm.Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 29
Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe.Use a drive socket #18.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+90°
Step 30
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe.Use a drive socket #18.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+90°
Step 31
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 32
Install the rod fastening to the stabilizer and tighten it.Use a drive socket #16.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.+90°
Step 33
Treat all joints of the arm.Treat all joints of the stabiliser link.Use copper grease.
Step 34
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 35
Clean the brake disk surface.Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 36
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5)
Step 37
Screw in the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 38
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 39
Remove the jacks and chocks.
