Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). Tip from AUTODOC:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 7
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Remove the brake caliper. Use a flat screwdriver.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). AUTODOC recommends:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary. - Step 9
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the brake disc. Use a rubber mallet. - Step 12
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13Remove the fastening nut.Step 14Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a rubber mallet.Step 15
Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 16Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a flat screwdriver.Step 17
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 18
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 20
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 21
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. - Step 22
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 23
Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 24
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 25
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 26
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a rubber mallet. - Step 27
Remove the steering knuckle together with the hub. - Step 28
Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a hammer. - Step 29
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use round-nose pliers. - Step 30
Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set. - Step 31
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 32Apply special grease to the bearing assembly mounting seat.Step 33
Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). Professionals recommend:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat. - Step 34
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use round-nose pliers. - Step 35Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use a multipurpose grease.Step 36
Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1U5). Tip from AUTODOC:Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment. - Step 37
Install the steering knuckle with a hub in assembly.
