Replacement: front lower arm – Skoda Octavia 1U. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Skoda Octavia 1U. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Skoda Octavia 1U - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8Remove the fastening bolt.Step 9
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #19. - Step 11
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 12
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13
Remove the front fastener of the control arm. - Step 14
Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.Step 16
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar. - Step 17
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 18Remove the fastening bolts.Step 19
Remove the ball joint. - Step 20
Attach the ball joint to the control arm. - Step 21Install the fastening bolts.Step 22
Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90° - Step 23
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

- C.P.09.05.2025 20:13MemberWith the 1U5 1.8t Automatic I found there was not enough clearance to remove the front bolt of the control arm. I tried lifting the transmission with a jack and still not enough clearance. I then had to remove several subframe bolts and pry the subframe down from the body while using a jack to lift the transmission as much as possible and was then able to remove the front bolt. 2001 Skoda Octavia L&K 1.8t automatic.
