Replacement: strut mount – Skoda Octavia 1U. Tip from AUTODOC experts:

The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: strut mount – Skoda Octavia 1U. Take the following steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the stabiliser link fasteners.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.

Step 7

Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm.Use a drive socket #16.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 9

Remove the stabilizer rod.

Step 10

Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.Use a combination spanner #18.Use a drive socket #18.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 13

Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 14

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.Use a rubber mallet.
Step 15

Lower the car.
Step 16

Open the bonnet.
Step 17

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 18

Clean the upper fastener of the suspension strut mount.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19

Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount.Use a drive socket #20.6.Use a ratchet wrench.

AUTODOC recommends:
Skoda Octavia 1U – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 20

Remove the suspension strut.
Step 21

Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.

Replacement: strut mount – Skoda Octavia 1U. AUTODOC recommends:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 22

Compress the spring.
Step 23

Treat the shock strut rod.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Remove the strut piston rod nut.Use a drive socket #20.6.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25

Remove the top strut mount.
Step 26

Install a new top shock strut mount.
Step 27

Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #20.6.Use HEX No.H6.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.

Replacement: strut mount – Skoda Octavia 1U. Tip:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 28

Decompress the spring.

Step 29

Treat the shock strut rod.Use copper grease.

Step 30

Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 31

Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 32

Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount.Use a drive socket #20.6.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 33

Treat the upper fastener of the suspension strut mount. Use copper grease.

Step 34

Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 35

Close the hood.
Step 36

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 37

Treat the mounting seats of the shock strut.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 38

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Step 39

Prop up the steering knuckle.Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 40

Install the fastening bolt.Use a hammer.

Step 41

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

AUTODOC recommends:
Skoda Octavia 1U – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 42

Tighten the lower fasteners of the suspension strut.Use a combination spanner #18.Use a drive socket #18.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.+90°
Step 43

Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.

Step 44

Install the rod fastening to the stabilizer and tighten it.Use a drive socket #16.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 15 Nm torque.+90°
Step 45

Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 46

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Step 47

Clean the brake disk surface.Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – Skoda Octavia 1U. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 48

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Skoda Octavia 1U
Step 49

Screw in the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 50

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 51

Remove the jacks and chocks.
