Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B6. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B6. Take the following steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Audi A4 B6
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a combination spanner #14.
- Step 8Remove the fastening bolt.Step 9Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 10Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11.1Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 11.2Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 12Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the fastening bolt.Step 14Clean the fastener that connects the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 15Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. Use a hammer.
- Step 17Remove the arm.
- Step 18Install a new arm.
- Step 19Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.Replacement: front lower arm – Audi A4 B6. Professionals recommend:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.Step 20Screw the fasteners of the ball joint.
