Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Audi A4 B7 Avant
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the shock strut fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber strut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 9Unscrew the upper arm fastenings. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 11Detach the upper control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
- Step 12Detach the bottom part of the shock strut.
- Step 13Lower the car.
- Step 14Open the bonnet.
- Step 15Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 16Remove the cowl grille seal.
- Step 17Remove the wiper cowl grille located on the right side.
- Step 18Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 19Unscrew the upper fasteners of the shock strut. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
- Step 20Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 21Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Tip:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 22Compress the spring.
- Step 23Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 24Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 25Remove the upper shock absorber mount assembled with the control arms.
- Step 26Release the coil spring.Step 27Remove the spring.Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. AUTODOC experts recommend:Τhoroughly examine the shock absorber mount, dust boot, bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
- Step 28Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.Step 29Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 30Install the boot and a bump stop onto the shock absorber.Step 31Install the upper shock absorber mount assembled with the control arms.
- Step 32Compress the spring.
- Step 33Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – Audi A4 B7 Avant. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 34Decompress the spring.
- Step 35Remove the assembled shock strut.
